St. Michael Parish Staff
AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM OUR PASTOR
In the interest of complete transparency, I need to tell you of my desire to retire at the end of the current fiscal year which is at the end of June 2021. People have always told me that your body will tell you when it’s time. My body is telling me that it is time. I have always wanted to be a priest (since second grade) and I have loved every minute of it. It is a great way to spend your life, and I would encourage young men to consider it. But the body wears out. I am 71 years old right now, and by the time I retire I will be 72. I have had a few health scares recently that have told me “it’s time”. A priest never retires from the priesthood, just from his assignment. I have been assigned as pastor of St. Michael for the past 23 years and truly love this parish. You folks are wonderful. You will be hearing much more from me about this transition in the near future.

Pastoral Minister for Catechesis
Nicky Uerling moved to Youngstown from the arctic cold of Wisconsin with her family in 2012. She studied Theology at the University of Dayton and proceeded to work in the world of campus ministry for 8 years, helping students, faculty and staff live their faith out in everyday life. Passionate about helping her three boys learn about their faith, the Generations of Faith program at St. Michael Parish was a natural fit. In her free time, Nicky loves to read memoirs, play guitar, and go hiking with her family at Mill Creek Park.

Laura Kunkel comes to us from St. Edward Parish in Youngstown. She lives in McDonald, is married, and the mother of three little boys.
Mrs. Howley joined St. Michael's office staff in October 2006 and is the parish's Office Manager. She attended Youngstown State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After having been part of the office staff at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Youngstown, she then held various positions in area companies, working mostly as a Human Resource Manager, before coming to St. Michael. Mrs. Howley happily resides in Austintown with her husband, Tom and daughter, Emma Olivia. Mrs. Howley loves spending as much time as possible with her daughter, who keeps her very busy. She also stays busy helping her husband on projects to update their home. Mrs. Howley enjoys baking, watching Cleveland Indians baseball, attending concerts, walking, and spending time with a group of friends she has had since her early years in school.
Maxine was born and raised in Youngstown, and currently lives in Canfield. She has four children: Kim, Kellie, Craig, and Jen and five grandchildren: Anthony, Lexie, Jessica, Natalie, and Addison. Maxine has been a member of St. Michael for many years, since the mid-70's and loves the parish. She currently serves as Chairperson of our Parish Pastoral Council. She was an elementary teacher in Poland for 35 years and retired in 2005. When Maxine is not working, you can usually find her walking in Mill Creek Park (early in the morning), working around the house and outside, reading, walking her dog Bentley, or visiting her children. Three of them live out of town, so she visits whenever she can.
