Purpose: To sponsor and financially support the “Little Children of Jesus Orphanage” in Lizon, Haiti, which is just outside of Port-au-Prince.
There is one envelope in the monthly envelope packet for the purpose. This orphanage is for children with disabilities. When possible, an annual pilgrimage to Haiti is offered to meet and interact with the children. Numerous houses have also been built in Haiti by members of our parish.
You may or may not know that a 4.2 earthquake rocked Haiti on Oct. 8, 2018, at 1:04 AM. The epicenter of this quake was 21 miles from the small city of Port de Paix which is in the northwest section of the country which is sparsely populated. Although 17 people were killed they were all in houses made of cinder block that collapsed. There are no large buildings in the section of Haiti so damage was minimal. The orphanage that we help sponsor is in central Haiti just outside of Port-au-Prince, so it was unaffected.
There was not much coverage of the quake probably because hurricane Michael was tearing through Florida and causing catastrophic damages.
