Giving Tree Ministry
Each year St. Michael parishioners provide gifts and grocery certificates for individuals and families in need. These families are the poorest of the poor. Many children and adults have special needs and are clients of social and religious agencies in the greater Youngstown area. And of course we include our Canfield families in need.
Our committee begins its work at summer's end as we contact local agencies for needy families. It culminates in December, shortly before Christmas, with our sorting of hundreds of gifts.
We always need volunteers. It's the best way to celebrate Christ's birth. Without the generosity of the members of this parish, many would not have warm clothes, bedding, or a Christmas dinner.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Our Giving Trees are decorated with paper cut-out "Advent Angels" in pink and purple.
A Pink Angel lists one person with his/her 3 gift needs.
A Purple Angel lists a family's request for a grocery gift certificate.
A "Gold Angel" represents an individual with needs that exceed the amount normally expected for Giving Tree gifts. These angels are for people who wish to spend a little more, or for families who wish to go together to purchase gifts.
We encourage each of you to become an "Advent Angel" and take one, two, or perhaps more angels to purchase gifts for those less fortunate. When you choose a pink angel, we ask you to purchase all 3 gifts listed. Since 3 separate gifts may be a hardship to some, we suggest that those parishioners go in together and split an angel between them.
When you choose your angel(s) from the tree, you'll find a white paper angel attached to each. Please write your name, e-mail address, and a phone number where you can best be reached on this white angel immediately and leave it in the basket provided. It is very important that we get the white slip back.
Please wrap each of your 3 gifts separately in holiday paper.
Tie or tape one of the pink angels on each gift.
If you decide to place all three gifts into one large wrapped box, please make sure to attach all 3 angels to the outside.
The gifts are to be brought to the church or Family Life Center no later than noon on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Please place them under the Giving Trees in church. Food gift cards and certificates should be placed in the boxes provided.
