Easter Vigil 2019
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EASTER VIGIL?
The Easter Vigil Mass begins at 8:00 PM on Holy Saturday. As we stand outside in the piazza,
we light the Easter fire, then we light the new Paschal Candle, process into the church, sing the Easter Proclamation (the Exsultet), hear readings telling us of salvation history, renew our own baptismal promises, receive new members into the Church, and celebrate the Eucharist.
Once again we sing the Gloria and the Alleluia, which we have not sung during Lent.
Twice during the Vigil, parishioners hold lighted candles symbolizing Christ’s victory
over the death, and the entire church glows with the light of hundreds of flames.
The Easter Vigil is a time of great beauty, a time of great joy.
