Rev. Terrence J. Hazel

Pastor

Father Hazel has been with St. Michael's Parish since 1997, and as Pastor oversees the operation of the Parish, and serves the Sacramental and Pastoral needs of the people.  Father Hazel has studied at Athenaeum of Ohio where he received a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Theology.  Later on, Father Hazel studied at Ursuline College where he received a Masters degree in Education Administration.  Father Terry has two brothers, Tom and Ronnie (d), and two sisters; Diane Wiemer, and Nancy Hazel.  In his free time, Father Terry enjoys bicycling, playing the organ, and golfing.

Deacon Tom Soich

Deacon Tom Soich was ordained a Permanent Deacon in November 1995 by Bishop Benedict Franzetta.  Deacon Tom has been serving St. Michael's since he was assigned to the parish in March 2000.  He is part of our professional staff, as the parish's Bookkeeper.   In addition, he also trains Liturgical Ministers for our parish, he ministers to the Altar Guild, coordinates the Prison Ministry at the Youngstown county jail, and Deacon Tom is the Spiritual Leader for Christ Renews His Parish - Men's Renewal.

Barbara Spencer

Pastoral Minister for Liturgy/RCIA/SCC

Mrs. Spencer has been at St. Michael Parish since 1998 and is the Pastoral Minister of Liturgy/RCIA/SCC.  Mrs. Spencer attended Youngstown State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, and then studied at Aquinas College where she received her Masters degree in Religious Studies.  Mrs. Spencer is married to Mr. Frank Spencer, Sr., and has two sisters and four nieces and nephews.  In her spare time, Mrs. Spencer volunteers at Angels For Animals, helps her elderly parents, and spends time baking, cooking and gardening.

Maureen Hall

Youth Ministry Director

Ms. Hall returned to St. Michael Parish in 2007 as Director of Youth Ministry, a position she previously held before taking several years off to pursue a PhD in theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh .  She will be working here part time while attempting to complete her dissertation.  In addition to her doctoral work, Ms. Hall has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Ursuline College in Cleveland , and a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of Notre Dame.  Ms. Hall has been an avid choir singer, and sometimes sings with the St. Michael Adult choir; in what little spare time she has she enjoys cooking, gardening, studying philosophy and playing with her two cats.

Vicki Vicars

Pastoral Minister for Catechesis

Mrs. Vicars recently joined our pastoral staff in August of 2007, after 20 years of ministry experience in parishes around the Diocese of Youngstown.  Mrs. Vicars studied theology, philosophy and education at Walsh University .  She and her husband Terry have two children, Nicholas a student in Columbus , Ohio and Annie, soon to be graduating from Boardman High School .  Vicki and her husband have also provided a home for two gentlemen with mental handicaps since 1990.  Frank and Jimmy have been wonderful additions to their family.  In her spare time, she is involved in the Ulster Project, and she enjoys gardening, and spending time with her family.

 

Dr. Anita Gorman

Director of Music Ministry

Dr. Gorman has been working with St. Michael's since 1978.  She left briefly in 1985 and returned in 1989.  She plays many instruments during Mass, including the organ, piano, and guitar.  She directs the St. Michael's Choir, The Brass of St. Michael, serves on the Liturgy Committee, and of course, plans all of the music for the Masses.  Mrs. Gorman attended Queens College in New York City where she received a B.A. in English.  She also attended the University of Wisconsin and Kent State University where she received her M.A. and Ph.D. in English.  She has a husband, William, a son Peter, and a daughter Ingrid, as well as a grandson, Patrick and granddaughter, Imogene.  In her spare time, Dr. Gorman enjoys studying Italian, reading and writing, and hopes to learn to play the violin.

 

Stephanie Howley

Office Manager

Mrs. Howley joined St. Michael's office staff in October 2006.  She resides in Canfield, but is originally from Austintown, where her father & late mother raised her, along with one older sister.  Mrs. Howley attended Youngstown State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, graduating Cum Laude.  She has held various management and office positions, working mostly as a Human Resource Manager.  She had also previously been a part of the staff in the office at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Youngstown, where she & her family are life-long members, and where she & her husband, Tom, were married.  In her spare time, she enjoys attending concerts, walking, watching Cleveland Indians baseball, visiting with friends, and spending time with family, including 3 young nieces.

 

Sharon Harpster

Mrs. Harpster has been with St. Michael Parish since 1989.  She is a Liturgical Minister, Wedding Coordinator, Parish Council Secretary, and Mass Coordinator.  She has a husband, Jim, and two sons, Rick and Brian.  Rick & his wife, Becca, live in Chicago and Brian lives in North Carolina.  In her spare time she enjoys golf, gourmet cooking, and traveling.

 Helen Karash

Mrs. Karash has been with St. Michael's Parish for over 40 years.  She now serves as the computer operator working with membership and contributions.  She had attended St. Peters in Mansfield, Ohio.  She has three children, one daughter and two sons, and four stepchildren, one stepdaughter and three stepsons.  She has sixteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  In her spare time she likes to take care of her grandchildren, do needlework, and play golf.

Rex Ewing

Maintenance

 

Mr. Ewing has been with St. Michael's Parish since 1993.  He is responsible for total parish maintenance and upkeep.  He studied at Leetonia High School and spent fourteen months overseas in a tour of duty in Vietnam.  He has three sons, Rex Jr., David, and Joe.  In his spare time he enjoys gardening, home repair, yard care, and landscaping.
