-PARISH MINISTRIES-

Social Justice Committee - Aids those individuals or families in the community who require spiritual and material assistance; educates the parish of and responds to social justice and legislative issues of the local communities and of national concern.

Appalachia Partnership - Supports the work of the Fransciscan Sisters in Grahn and Olive Hill Kentucky. This support takes many forms: financial, material, and spiritual, and includes an annual trip to Kentucky to do physical labor in any area needed.

A.C.T.I.O.N. is an organization of congregations and faith groups embracing the tools of community organizing through building faith-filled relationships in the community. A.C.T.I.O.N. members are committed to listening, learning, leading, as well as collectively acting on our values in the public arena to bring about changes in the greater Youngstown Metropolitan Area.

Giving Tree Committee - Provides an opportunity for parishioners to give Christmas gifts; especially, food and clothing to needy families. The committee meets from mid-October through November. The Giving Tree must be ready for the First Sunday of Advent.

Soup Kitchen Workers - Individual and families (children 8 and older) work one Saturday a month at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Youngstown to prepare and serve breakfast.

Operation Blessing - Through an ecumenical effort, volunteers gather monthly at Canfield Presbyterian Church to pack and distribute food for the needy in the area.

Haiti Partnership - Supports financially our adopted "Orphanage for Disabled Children" in Lizon, Haiti. This includes an annual pilgrimage to Haiti to meet and interact with the children.

Funeral Dinner Ministry - Provides a meal for the bereaved family and friends following the funeral Mass.

Hospital and Nursing Home Visitation Ministry - Prays with and provides spiritual support to those parishioners who are confined in hospitals and nursing homes.

Homebound Visitor Ministry - Prays with, visits and brings Eucharist to those parishioners who are homebound.

Hospitality (Coffee and Community) - Acts as hosts/hostesses for the parish community to gather weekly after the Sunday Masses.

Engaged Couples' Sponsors - Invite engaged couples to their home for five sessions of a Marriage Preparation Program; work with the Pastor to encourage and support engaged couples in their marriage commitment.

RCIA - On-going process of welcoming baptized and unbaptized adults and children into full membership in the Catholic Faith. Opportunity for involvement include Volunteer Reflectors and Sponsors. Volunteer Reflectors facilitate discussion and scripture sharing after dismissal during the Sunday liturgies. Sponsors work closely with the RCIA team and accompany their candidate to the formation and liturgical sessions.

Adult Faith Formation Committee - Works to enhance faith and deepen spirituality by fostering an adult understanding of our Catholic Christian Tradition. Responsibilities include: providing in-parish classes, speakers and workshops, promoting diocesan and neighboring parish education programs and maintaining the Parish Library.

Family Life Committee - Provides enriching opportunities for families to meet other families and to build community.

Toddler's Play Group - Meets Wednesdays from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in the parish nursery. Toddlers must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

ARK - Enables parents to participate in Sunday liturgy while their young children play in the nursery, downstairs in the Parish Center during the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses. Adult and young adult volunteers serve as babysitters.

Evangelization Committee - Encourages all in the parish to share their faith through outreach to Catholics who are not practicing their faith, and to those with no church affiliation.

Welcoming Committee - Works to make new parishioners feel welcome at St. Michael; host "New Parishioner Sunday".

Small Christian Community- Members gather once a week to reflect and pray on the Sunday Gospel reading, to discover what God is saying to each of us in the Gospel and to discern ways to put that message into action.

Environment/Art Committee - Plans, implements and maintains the environmental settings in the church for the liturgical seasons and special celebrations.

Liturgy of the Word for Children - Offered year-round at all Sunday Masses to children in grades 1-3; children hear the Scripture in simplified translation, say a Creed, and create Prayers of the Faithful with an adult leader.

Liturgical Ministers - These ministries enable parishioners to participate in special ways at weekend liturgies. They include: Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Minister to the Sick, Lector, Altar Server (children 4th grade or older and adults), Usher, Greeter, Liturgical Coordinator (Sunday, funerals and/or weddings), and Sacristan.

Music Ministries - Leads the assembly in singing and enhances weekend and special liturgies through music. Opportunities to participate in the music ministry include: Cantor, choir member and instrumentalist.

 

-PARISH ORGANIZATIONS-

Altar Guild - Responsible for the needs and expenses pertaining to the altar and sacristy. The Altar Guild is open to all women of the parish. They meet the first Monday of the month, September through May.

R.S.V.P. Stitchers - Gather for companionship and to make small items for the sick and elderly. They meet at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday in the Parish Center.

Garden Guild - Fosters the knowledge and love of gardening, and helps work for the beautification of the grounds of our parish. Garden Guild meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Parish Center at 7:45 p.m.

Men's Club - Offers the men of the parish an opportunity to gather socially as well as, sponsor and participate in parish functions such as holiday parties, dances, Sunday morning breakfasts and the parish picnic. The Men's Club meets on the second Thursday of the month in the Parish Center at 8:00 p.m.

Boy Scouts - Provide an opportunity for boys, ages eleven through seventeen to build desirable qualities of character, to train in responsibilities of citizenship, to practice leadership skills, to develop physical, mental and emotional fitness, to foster a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative and resourcefulness, and to establish personal and stable ethics and values based on religious concepts. Boy Scouts meet on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of parish center.

Cub Scouts - Family oriented program for boys in grades 2 - 5 designed to influence the development of character and encourage spiritual growth, to develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship, to encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body, to strengthen the ability to get along with others and respect other people, and to foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interest and skills. Cub Scouts meet on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. in the basement of the parish center.

Youth Soccer - Organized soccer league for children under the age of 14. Eight game season during April and May played on Saturdays and Sundays at Boardman Soccer Fields against children of other area churches.
